Welcome to HeyBelina! A design + lifestyle bilingual blog that will inspire you to transform your home into your favorite place on earth.
HeyBelina is all about living a creative, colorful, and genuinely happy life. As a single mom and creative entrepreneur, I know exactly what it is to juggle between work, life, and parenthood…. its challenges, its rewards. I believe life should be practical and that the little things are the ones that make the difference.
I know what it is to live on a budget. I believe that having the home of your dreams should not cost you a fortune. That’s why I’ll share my favorite tips and struggles to inspire you to decorate and transform your home and stay on budget.
One of the things I struggled about when I was thinking about starting my blog is the language. I was born and raised in Venezuela, but I’ve been living in the United States for 16 years now. So I decided to make it bilingual to be able to express myself the way I live my personal life. So even though English will be my main language, I’ll also share posts and inspiration in Spanish.
Let me tell you a little bit more about me:
I have an obsession with color, composition, nature, patterns, and anything creative. Design has always been a part of my life. I have been lucky to enjoy different facets of it… as a creator, as a graphic designer, and as an entrepreneur. And interior design has always been special and fascinating for me.
I love making things. I got my crafty vein from my mom, who also comes from a family of crafters who sew, crocheted, etc. I have owned a glue gun since age 10 and I absolutely love making DIY projects to decorate my home. I also love tweaking things and objects to make my life easier and keep home organized and under control, especially as a single mom.
Ever since I was a little girl, and spent long hours reimagining my room and making surprise makeovers at home. Luckily, my parents were always supportive of my creative drive, even when I re-painted valuable or expensive accents around the house. Ups. Growing up, I was surrounded with art and tasty decor at home, and since then, I value and appreciate the character and personality homes can have.
After graduating from high school, I moved from Venezuela in 2001, and started my career in advertising and graphic design at the University of Miami, and graduated in 2005. Since then, I have worked in a variety of projects, mainly as a graphic designer.
I married in 2006 and my son Sebastian was born in 2009. I have lived in a variety of spaces between Miami and New York City, ranging from a 1-bedroom apartment with no washer/dryer in unit to a 5-bedroom house with patio and pool in my native Venezuela. After my divorce in 2015, I decided to downsize into a 3-bedroom apartment. It was tough in the beginning, but it was also a beautiful way to start fresh and create a new vibe for our small new home my son and I would share. Sebastian was such an inspiration to move quickly and create the warmest home I could possibly get.
But the most important thing I realized with this big change is that we needed so little to live a happy life! I had to basically start from scratch and buy all the home essentials… and I loved the process! I became an expert in finding the best deals on the internet. I was determined to have the home of my dreams without spending a fortune! and I did!
I bought my apartment in spring 2015 and I have transformed it little by little. I will share all of my home transformations here. You’re welcome to join me on our Home Makeover journey, as I continuously add new things and updates.
Please ask me questions! I am here to help you and get to know you better. Let’s make home our happy place!
